Andrew A. Husovsky, 69, a former resident of Swoyersville and currently a resident of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, December 07, 2012, at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Born on July 22, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre, Andrew was a son of the late Andrew and Betty (Fialko) Husovsky. 

Raised in Swoyersville, Andy was a graduate of the former West Side Central Catholic High School, Kingston, Class of 1961. Following high school, Andy went on to further his education at King’s College, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1965.

In 1968, while pursuing a doctorate degree from Georgetown University, Andy was involved in a car accident in Washington, D.C. when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a falling tree. Andy was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. Andy endured months of physical therapy, and persevered to earn his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Georgetown a few years later.

Upon completion of his doctoral studies, Andy began working for the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C. as Associate Editor of its magazine, Analytical Chemistry. In 1980, he relocated to Southern California, where he continued to work for Analytical Chemistry as a consultant for several more years. In the late 1980s, Andy changed career paths and obtained his real estate license, and began working in that profession. 

Many people knew Andy as a talented artist. He began painting as a means of therapy following his accident and continued for most of the remainder of his life, producing many amazing works that grace the homes of family and friends across the country. 

An avid traveler, he saw most of the United States and made several trips to Europe, including a visit to the Vatican where he met Pope John Paul II. He was an ardent supporter of the arts, and enjoyed the Broadway stage, the silver screen, listening to music, and reading. He was also a big sports fan, and a loyal follower of the Washington Redskins and the Georgetown Hoyas college basketball team.

Andy will always be remembered as a selfless, giving, and loving brother, uncle, and friend. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, his wonderful spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his aunt, Mary Husovsky, who passed away in 2007. She accompanied him on many of his travels. 

Andy is survived by his brother, Daniel Husovsky and his wife Charlene, of San Diego, California; his sister, Betsy Perone and her husband Carmen, of Swoyersville; his nephews, Daniel Husovsky and his wife Shannon, of San Diego, California and Andrew Husovsky and his wife Paula, of Murrieta, California; his nieces, Crista Husovsky, of Murrieta, California and Michelle Perone, of Swoyersville; his great-nieces, Gillian and Jaclyn Husovsky, of Murrieta, California.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, December 17, 2012, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton.

Family and Friends may call on Sunday, December 16, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
