Aloysius J. Bogusko, 90, a resident of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed into eternal life on Monday evening, December 19, 2016, at the Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, where he was recently a guest.
His loving wife is Margaret (Solack) Bogusko. Al and Marge’s marriage was blessed with four wonderful daughters, and together, they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on November 19th.
Born on July 27, 1926, in Plains Township, Al was the son of the late Martin and Bertha (Sobolewski) Bogusko.
Raised in Plains Township, Al was a graduate of the former Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1944.
A United States Army Veteran, Al honorably served his country as a Sergeant during World War II. For 17 months during the war, he was stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, serving in the Philippines. He was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Al was employed for 37 years as a Master Plumber for the former Hogan’s Plumbing and Heating Co., Wilkes-Barre. Following his employment there, he went on to be a self-employed plumber working alongside his friend, Barry Metzger, until his retirement. He was a 64 year member of the Pipefitters Union, Local 524, Scranton.
A faithful Catholic, Al was a longtime member of Saint Mary the Maternity Roman Catholic Church, now Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre. Additionally, he was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 302, Wilkes-Barre.
Al was also a retired Wilkes-Barre Township Volunteer Fireman and was proud to help with the construction of the fire company’s first fire house. He also was an honorary director and member of the Polish Union of U.S.A.; a member of the American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township; and a member of the Brookside Sportsman Club, Lake Wallenpaupack.
Al was the type of man who was always ready and willing to help anyone, and he was truly a jack of all trades who could fix and tinker with just about anything.
Family was the center of Al’s life, and he truly savored every moment he had with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and extended family. Caring and gentle toward everyone he encountered, Al was always a true gentleman who radiated with kindness. Although his presence will be deeply missed, he leaves behind many treasured memories to reflect upon until we are reunited with him in glory.
In addition to his parents, Martin and Bertha Bogusko, Al was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Bernard, Thomas, and Francis Bogusko; his sister, Josephine Bogusko; and his son-in-law, Anthony Katra.
In addition to his wife, Marge, Al is survived by his four daughters, Anita Sirak and her husband, Richard, Hanover Township; Andrea Bogusko, Mountaintop; Margo Lukacinsky and her husband, Bill, Mountaintop; and Judy Katra, Mountaintop; his son-in-law, Matthew Yorkonis; his five grandchildren, April Yorkonis and her husband, David Fernandes; Aaron Yorkonis and his wife, Tracy; Lukas Lukacinsky; and Kellan and Kyle Katra; his twin great-granddaughters, Andi Grace and Arden Aaralyn Yorkonis; his sister, Doris Eslinger, Macungie; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Al’s viewing which will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. There will be an additional viewing on Friday morning, from 8:45 to 9:30 AM, in the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with the Reverend John S. Terry, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary the Maternity Roman Catholic Cemetery, West Wyoming, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
