Alice (Roper) Fumanti, 83, a resident of the Hilldale section of Plains Township, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Her beloved husband was the late Joseph Fumanti, who passed away on October 24, 2006. Together, Joseph and Alice shared 54 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on October 24, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, Alice was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Fritzinger) Roper.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Alice was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Class of 1948.
Prior to her retirement, Alice was employed by various garment manufacturers throughout the Wyoming Valley. Additionally, Alice worked for some time in the Telephone-Engineering field and also worked for Margie’s Bridal Shop, Wyoming.
A woman of great faith, Alice was a longtime member of the Christian Apostolic Church of Hilldale, located in Plains Township.
Alice held membership with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, with whom she served as both a shop steward and secretary. Additionally, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Plains American Legion, Joseph Conlon Post 558.
An ardent supporter of the Lion’s Club, Alice spent many years alongside her husband, Joseph, serving the Lion’s Club on both the local and statewide level. Throughout their years with the Lion’s Club, they enjoyed attending many State and International Conventions together.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Leo, Jonas and John Roper; her sisters, Rebecca Sulyma, Dorothy Swainbank, Caroline Zimmerman and Barbara Roper.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Joanne Major and her husband Thomas, of Plains Township; her sons, Joseph Fumanti and his wife Sandra, of Laflin; William Fumanti, of Plains Township; her grandchildren, Brandon J. Fumanti, Hollie Major and T.J. Major; her brothers-in-law, Daniel Fumanti and his companion Claire; Anthony Fumanti and his wife, Blanche; her sisters-in-law, Lena Fumanti and Claire Bond Roper; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Manor Care Health Services, Kingston, for the kind and gentle care they bestowed upon Alice during her stay there.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service which will be celebrated on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 10:00 AM in the Christian Apostolic Church of Hilldale, 757 North Main Street, Plains Township, with the Reverend David M. Fischi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort and again on Monday morning, from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service, at the church.
