Alice Louise Matukonis, 90, a resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Friday evening, November 03, 2017, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Her beloved husband of 68 years was the late John L. Matukonis, who passed away on May 16, 2017.
Born on September 09, 1927, in Swoyersville, Alice was one of eleven children born to the late Blaise and Mary (Toporek) Gavlick.
Raised in Swoyersville, Alice was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1945, and was also a graduate of the former Wilkes-Barre Business College.
A dedicated homemaker, Alice lovingly tended to the daily needs of her family. She was an awesome baker and quilt maker, and she had a heart that embraced all she met.
Alice was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where she held membership with the church’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville. Additionally, Alice was a member of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvanians for Human Life.
In addition to her parents, Blaise and Mary Gavlick, and her husband, John, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Valentine, George, Stephen, Joseph, Leo, and Thomas Gavlick; her sisters, Helen Yavorski, Roseann Chopko, Sophie Gulla, and Estelle Stofko.
Alice is survived by her three sons, Edward Matukonis, Forty Fort; Michael Matukonis and his wife, Merry, Centre Hall; and Richard Matukonis, and his wife, Anne Rice, Williamsport; her grandchildren, Tess Fellows, Will Matukonis, and Natalie Gephart; her one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Wednesday, November 08, 2017, at 10:00 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, at the funeral home.
The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Wednesday morning at 9:45 AM in the church.
