Albert Shemo, 81, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away on Monday morning, May 11, 2026.
Born on September 20, 1944, in Kingston, Albert was one of three children born to the late John Shemo and Eleanor Romanowski Shemo.
Residing in Swoyersville all his life, Albert was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1962.
Albert began a long, successful career in retail sales starting at the Army-Navy Store in Luzerne, followed by over 30 years in men’s formal and casual wear at Pomeroy’s in the Midway Shopping Center, Wyoming, and then by an award-winning sales career at JCPenney’s in the Wyoming Valley Mall. Albert became the “cornerstone” salesman primarily in men’s suits at JCPenney’s, known by multitudes of happy customers throughout the region. His warm and friendly personality along with his sharp wit easily turned many loyal customers into long-time friends.
For many years, Albert had an enthusiasm for exercise, taking many long walks on the west side levee, Wyoming Avenue and throughout his neighboring communities. Full of energy and life, following his retirement from retail, he became a crossing guard for the Wyoming Valley West School District and then Good Shepherd Academy, Kingston. He not only became the lovable “2nd uncle or grandfather” and friend of hundreds of happy students, but he also became their “good shepherd” of caring spirit, showing an attribute of his own great faith.
A man of “ecumenical love,” Albert was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne and a past member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. He was also an active attendee of Harvest Church, Trucksville, where his addictively warm personality drew the love and friendship of the faithful; where his passion for song was fulfilled by the inspiring music; and where he became adopted family to many members.
Albert will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his boundless love of family – immediate, extended and adopted – he was truly a master of spreading love and kindness.
In addition to his parents, John and Eleanor, Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Shemo Wisnewski.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, John Shemo; his nephew, Chris Wisnewski and his wife, Julie; as well as a number of cousins, and many dear friends.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Third Avenue Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, for the wonderful care they bestowed upon Albert over the past year.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Albert’s services which will begin with viewing on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Monsignor David L. Tressler, his Pastor, will officiate.
A private burial will be held in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Albert’s family entrusted his funeral arrangements to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
