In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 06, 2024, Richard T. Cebrick, a resident of Highland Park Senior Living, Wilkes-Barre, and formerly of Circle Drive, Dallas, entered into the glory of Heaven, with his daughter and son-in-law at his side, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre, after a dignified struggle with dementia.
His beloved wife was the late Dorothy Jean Cebrick who entered into eternal life on April 12, 2015, after 56 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on October 21, 1933, in Kingston, Richard was one of five children, and the only son born to the late Thomas Cebrick and Mary Silkowski Cebrick.
Raised in Swoyersville, Richard was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1952. What some may not know about Richard was that at the age of 11, he took up the violin and by the age of 18 was playing with the philharmonic – his love of music was a lifelong passion.
A United States Army veteran, Richard honorably served his country during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge on October 04, 1956, he attained the rank of Private 1st Class.
Richard was employed for 25 years by Procter and Gamble, Mehoopany, retiring at the age of 59.
A devout Catholic, Richard was a faithful member of Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church, Shavertown, where he was actively involved with various church functions. Sustained by his deep devotion to our Lord and his most glorious Blessed Mother, Richard prayed the Rosary daily. His commitment to prayer, as well as his genuine kindness were two of his most beautiful qualities.
Richard greatly enjoyed volunteering with the Northeast Genealogical Society, Hanover Township, where his wife served as clerical assistant for some time.
A quintessential gentleman, Richard was even tempered, well mannered, thankful, and generous. He had a smile that lit up every room he entered, and had a knack for conversation and finding common ground with others. Family gatherings brought him the most joy – he loved nothing more than sitting around the table reminiscing with his loved ones.
A master at vegetable gardening, Richard started his garden from seed every year, and always made sure to share his annual harvest with his family and friends. Beside his love of gardening, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as a slice of Pizza Perfect’s pizza; a bowl of Whitehouse Cherry ice cream; all things peanut butter; and potatoes, especially with his breakfast.
Richard’s love for his family will be his lasting legacy – his loved ones were his greatest treasure. He was the most caring, compassionate, selfless, and devoted husband, father, pop, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and cousin. Although his presence will be missed beyond words, there is much comfort in knowing he is joyfully reunited with his wife, son, and all those who have gone before him.
In addition to his parents, Thomas and Mary, and his wife, Dorothy, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved son, Mark Alan Cebrick, who entered into eternal life on June 20, 2012; his daughter-in-law, Diane Bukuski Cebrick, who entered into eternal life on December 15, 2008; and his sisters, Lucille Hannon, Mary Cebrick, Anita Diehl, and Sylvia Miller.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Lisa Aritz and her husband, Emilio “Emil”, Plains Township; his three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Aritz Slavin and her husband, Reggie, Greensboro, North Carolina; Michael Aritz and his wife, Abigail, Lancaster; and Justin Marc Cebrick, Avoca; his great-granddaughter, Gia Marie Slavin, Greensboro, North Carolina; as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Richard’s family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Allied Services Hospice Center for the gentle, compassionate, and loving care they bestowed upon Richard during his final days – you are all angels on Earth. They wish to also extend their gratitude to the staff of Highland Park Senior Living’s Bridges Unit for their wonderful care during the time Richard resided there.

Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
