Raymond S. Krakosky, 90, a resident of Swoyersville, passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by his family on Wednesday evening, September 17, 2025, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His beloved wife is Jean M. Silic Krakosky, with whom Ray celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on August 19th.
Born on April 27, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, Raymond was one of two sons born to the late John Krakosky and Elizabeth Matushek Krakosky.
Raised in Swoyersville, Ray was a graduate of the former Saint Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1953, where he excelled in basketball. He later went on to attend Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, where he studied electrical engineering.
A United States Navy veteran, Ray proudly served his country for nearly 4 years during and after the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge on October 24, 1957, he attained the rank of Tradesman Petty Officer Third Class.
Prior to his retirement, Ray was employed as a carrier for the United States Postal Service, serving most of his 39 years there on the same route in Shavertown – a job he truly loved. In return, he himself was loved and admired by all who were lucky enough to know him during his years of service.
A devout Catholic, Ray was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Swoyersville, where for many years he volunteered at its annual bazaar, most notably helping to assemble and disassemble the stands and working the Big 6 Wheel.
Ray’s passion for sports ran deep. He coached baseball for the Swoyersville Little League in his younger years, and he was an ardent fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Villanova Wildcats, and the U.S. Navy football team.
Wherever Ray went he lit up the room. He was a captivating conversationalist with an extremely quick sense of humor. He was deeply patriotic. His roles of husband, Dad and “Grampy” were most important to him – he was adoring, devoted, and fiercely loyal when it came to family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the true stars in his sky. He reveled in all of their achievements as if they were his own, and he especially enjoyed rooting them on in their many sporting events. Although he will be deeply missed, he leaves behind an ever-growing legacy of love and family.
In addition to his parents, John and Elizabeth, Ray was preceded in death by his only brother, John Krakosky Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean, and their four children: Ray Krakosky; Kathy Kufta and her husband, Bob; Karen Alunni and her husband, Ron, all of Forty Fort; and Michael Krakosky and his wife, Chastity, West Wyoming; seven grandsons: Tim Kufta; Dr. Kenny Kufta and his wife, Shannon; Santino Alunni; Dominic Alunni; Nathan Victor; Connor Krakosky; and Matthew Krakosky; three great-grandchildren: Kennedy Rae Kufta, Lane Thomas Kufta, and Dakota Kufta; his sister-in-law, Susan Krakosky, Texas; as well as his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Raymond’s Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, his Pastor, officiating.
Private interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
In accordance with Ray’s wishes, the viewing will be private for his immediate family.
