Mary J. Stier, 78, formerly of Owen Street, Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Mother’s Day morning, Sunday, May 11, 2025, at River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plains Township.
Her beloved husband of 48 years was the late John W. Stier, who passed away on January 14, 2015.
Born on March 03, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, Mary was one of two daughters born to the late Joseph Yezefski and Johanna Dederski Yezefski Zakseski.
Raised in Swoyersville, Mary was a graduate of the former Central Catholic High School, Kingston, Class of 1965. Later, she went on to further her education at Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke, where, in 1994, she acquired her Associates Degree in Accounting.
Prior to her retirement in 2011, Mary was employed by the former Friedman Electric, Exeter. Prior to that, she worked as a licensed insurance agent for the Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, and also as a seamstress for the former Leslie Fay Garment Factory.
Mary was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, and following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A woman of many enjoyments, Mary enjoyed playing bingo and attending various events at the Kingston Active Adult Center. Above all her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – she truly loved each of them with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, Joseph and Johanna, and her husband, John, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Blockus.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, John Stier, Jr. and his wife, Regina, Swoyersville; Cynthia Baker and her husband, John, Swoyersville; Joseph Stier and his wife, Tammy, Waxahachie, Texas; and David Stier and his wife, Julie, Coalville City, Utah; her grandchildren, Heather, Andrew, Kerrilynn, Jessica, John Jr., Joseph Jr., Samantha, Alexander, Justin, Tyler and Ashley; her eight great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the attentive and compassionate care they bestowed upon Mary during her time of need.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. A Memorial Mass will commence at 10:30 AM with the Reverend Father Michael S. Drevitch, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
The Stier family entrusted Mary’s arrangements to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
