Mary Beth Leighton Ruddy, 94, a resident of Edwardsville, and formerly of Marlborough Avenue, South Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday morning, March 11, 2022, at her home.
Her beloved husband was the late P. Joseph Ruddy, who passed into eternal life on June 15, 2018. Together, Joseph and Mary Beth shared 67 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on January 22, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, Mary Beth was one of two children born to the late G. Murray Leighton and Marie (Brown) Leighton.
Raised in South Wilkes-Barre, Mary Beth was a graduate of the former E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1945. She went on to further her education at College Misericordia, now Misericordia University, where, in 1949, she acquired her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics.
Prior to her marriage, Mary Beth was employed for two years as a home economics instructor at the former Kingston High School. After her marriage to Joseph, she devoted her life to being a homemaker.
Firmly rooted in her Catholic faith, Mary Beth was a lifelong member of the former Saint Therese of the Little Flower Church, South Wilkes-Barre, where, for many years, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Upon the closure of Saint Therese Church, Mary Beth became a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston.
In addition to her parents, G. Murray and Marie Leighton, and her husband, P. Joseph Ruddy, Mary Beth was preceded in death by her only brother, G. Murray Leighton Jr.
Mary Beth is survived by her two children, Janet Finn and her husband, Brian, Horsham; and Peter Ruddy and his wife, Jackie, Casa Grande, Arizona; her five grandchildren, Kevin Finn, Amy Finn, Kyle Finn, Brad Ruddy, and Cayla Ruddy; as well as her extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 9:45 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:15 AM in Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 North Maple Avenue, Kingston. Mary Beth’s cousin, Monsignor Donald E. Leighton, will serve as celebrant, and her Pastor, Monsignor David L. Tressler, will serve as con-celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends are invited to attend a closed casket visitation which will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 AM, at the funeral home.
