Marie J. Bordy, 70, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday evening, June 24, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Her loving husband is Frank Bordy with whom she would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on October 23, 2025.
Born on August 14, 1954, in Swoyersville, Marie was the daughter of the late John Meckalavage Sr. and Stella Skiengel Meckalavage Songaila, and the step-daughter of the late Peter Songaila.
Marie was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1972.
Throughout her life, Marie was employed as an accounts receivable clerk for Nelson Furniture, Nesbitt Hospital, Columbia Medical, and InterMountain Medical Group.
Marie was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, and, upon its closure, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A woman of so many enjoyments, Marie was happiest spending time and relishing in the love of her family and close friends. Her granddaughters were the light of her life, never missing an opportunity to spend time with them. The memory of her will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, John and Stella, and her step-father, Peter, Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Jean Meckalavage; and her brothers, John Meckalavage and Robert Meckalavage.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Frank, and their son, Matthew Bordy and his wife, Elizabeth, Larksville; her granddaughters, Reagan and Hailey Bordy; her sister, Geraldine Hulyo, Selinsgrove; her aunts, Sister Cynthia Skiendziel O.S.F. and Sister Melita Skiendziel O.S.F., both of Saint Joseph’s Villa, Reading; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Meckalavage, Jenkins Township, and Maureen Mello and her husband, Dan, West Wyoming; as well as her nieces and nephews, countless cousins, friends and her grand-dog, Spock.
The family wishes to extend their utmost praise and gratitude to doctors and nurses from the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for the outstanding and compassionate care they bestowed upon Marie during her time of need – the family will be forever grateful for all they did for Marie.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Thursday, July 03, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. A Memorial Mass will commence at 10:30 AM with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal of her cremated remains will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
The Bordy family entrusted Marie’s arrangements to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
