Leonard A. Kuchemba, M.D., 63, a resident of Shavertown, passed into eternal life on Monday morning, January 27, 2025, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a brief illness.
His loving wife is Deborah A. Bravi Kuchemba. Len and Debbie would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on July 14th.
Born on April 16, 1961, in Swoyersville, Leonard was one of three children born to the late Leonard Kuchemba and Anna Dziekan Kuchemba.
Raised in Swoyersville, Len was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1979. Following high school, he went on to attend Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, where, in 1983, he acquired his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He then went on to attend the American University of the Caribbean, Montserrat, West Indies, where, in 1986, he received his Doctorate in Medicine.
Returning to the Wyoming Valley, he entered into residency with the Northeast Pennsylvania Affiliated Residency Program, Wilkes-Barre, specializing in internal medicine. His residency was spent primarily at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, where he met his future wife, Debbie.
Upon completing his residency in 1990, Dr. Kuchemba worked as an Emergency Room Physician for various local hospitals and as a hospitalist at the former Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He then went into private practice, opening an office in Wilkes-Barre and eventually merged his practice with Commonwealth Health System. Dedicated to his patients, he was still seeing his patients until a few weeks ago.
A faithful Catholic, Len was a member of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, Carverton section of Kingston Township, and, professionally, Len was a member of the American Medical Association.
Len was an avid sports enthusiast and especially loved hockey and baseball, with his favorite teams being the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and spending time with his loving family. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
In addition to his parents, Leonard and Anna, Len was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Roy Corle.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie; his sisters, Elaine Stefanko and her husband, Ralph, Larksville; and Alice Corle, Bedford; his nephew, Alex Corle, Bedford; his dear cousin, Kathy Yamrus and her husband, John; as well as his other cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Sunday, February 02, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
Family and friends may gather on Monday, February 03, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 585 Mount Olivet Road, Wyoming, for a second memorial visitation. At 11:00 AM, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by his Pastor, the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi.
Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
