Joseph W. Cheskiewicz, 73, formerly of Jay Street, Swoyersville, passed into eternal life peacefully on Monday morning, October 28, 2024, at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, where he had been a resident since November 2023.
Born on May 09, 1951, in Kingston, Pa. Joseph was the eldest of three children born to the late Joseph P. Cheskiewicz and Eleanor M. Sincavage Cheskiewicz.
Raised in Swoyersville, Joseph was a graduate of the former Central Catholic High School, Class of 1969. Joseph graduated from King’s College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He then went on to post-graduate studies at Ohio State University, and Villanova University where he received a Masters Degree in Analytical Chemistry.
A brilliant man, Joseph was employed as a Research Chemist for the United States Department of Agriculture, Hides and Leather Division. Upon his return to the Wyoming Valley, he briefly taught high school chemistry, then lovingly cared for his maternal grandmother and mother for many years.
Joseph was a devout member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville where he served as an usher. In addition to serving as an usher he also actively volunteered at the church’s annual bazaars and flea markets.
Having a lifelong passion for music, Joseph loved all genres from classical to rock. Joseph was skilled at playing the guitar and was a member of the Central Catholic Glee Club and the King’s College Glee Club.
Genuine, kind, compassionate and selfless, Joseph enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking. Joseph enjoyed decorating for the holidays, keeping in touch with friends and family near and far with Christmas cards containing individualized handwritten notes, and never missed sending birthday wishes. Joseph enjoyed attending his class reunions and visiting family.
Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his two sisters, Karen Allwein and her husband, Robert, Bethlehem; and Carol Miller and her husband, James, Reading; four nieces, two great nephews, one great-niece, local cousins, neighbors and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with a Memorial Mass to commence at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Father John J. Chmil, his Pastor, will be the celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary the Annunciation Roman Catholic Cemetery, Pringle.
Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
