Joan E. Hizny, a resident of Pittston, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, April 12, 2022.
Born in Swoyersville, Joan was one of three children born to the late Dominick and Marion (Marinko) Long.
Raised in Swoyersville, Joan was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, where she was a majorette and active in other school activities.
Joan began working for the U.S. Army Recruiting Office, formerly located in Forty Fort. She eventually left there to devote her life to raising her children, and she was actively involved in all her children’s activities. After her children were raised, she attended Luzerne County Community College, and then returned to the workforce, becoming employed by WVIA-PBS-NPR, Jenkins Township, where she worked as a receptionist for 20 years, eventually retiring from there.
A devout Catholic, Joan was an active member of Saint John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, holding membership with the church choir, and teaching religious education.
Joan had many enjoyments in life, most especially singing; gardening; and playing bingo, card games, and board games. Above all, her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Dominick and Marion Long, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Long.
Joan is survived by her three children, Denise Heidi Long; Thomas Hizny; and Debbie Anderson; her two granddaughters, Jeannine Carver and her husband, Josh; and Jennifer Tierney; her brother, Thomas Long; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation which will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston, with a Funeral Mass to commence at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Joseph P. Elston, her Pastor, will be the celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
