Gloria S. Perugini, 95, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday evening, September 13, 2020, at her home.
On June 11, 1949, Gloria married Edward Perugini, beginning a loving marriage that lasted until Edward’s passing on August 24, 2004.
Born on September 02, 1925, in Scranton, Gloria was the daughter of the late August and Assunta (Stefani) Sabatini.
Raised in the south-side section of Scranton, Gloria was a graduate of Scranton Technical School, Class of 1943. She then went on to become employed as an administrative assistant for Retail Credit, Scranton, where she was a valued employee for 13 years.
In 1961, Gloria and Edward moved to Maltby Avenue in Swoyersville where they raised their three children, Patrice, Nick, and Susan. For many years, both Edward and Gloria were active members of the Swoyersville Kiwanis Club, and Gloria was known to work in the kitchen for the club’s countless spaghetti suppers. She was also actively involved in many other local charities, most notably the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Gloria loved hosting family picnics in her backyard, and she was renowned for her Italian cooking. She was best known for her homemade ravioli and her ravioli served as the staple for many family holiday dinners.
In 1998, Gloria became the primary caregiver for her beloved husband, Edward, after he suffered a debilitating stroke. For the five years following his stroke, Gloria devotedly cared for Edward at home in the most loving way until his passing.
A faithful Catholic, Gloria was a longtime member of the former Holy Name/Saint Mary’s Parish Community, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to her parents, August and Assunta Sabatini, and her husband, Edward, Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers, John Sabatini and Joseph Lubrani Jr.; and her sister, Sandra Ferrario.
Gloria is survived by her three children, Patrice Hosmer and her husband, Gary, Marietta, Georgia; Nicholas “Nick” Perugini and his wife, June, Brookeville, Maryland; Susan Turner and her husband, Paul, who live next door in Swoyersville, and were Gloria’s primary caregivers in her final years.
Gloria was known as “Nonni” to her six loving grandchildren, Katie Perugini, Nick Perugini, Daniel Evans, Samantha DiGaetano, Daniel Turner, and Andrew Turner; and her four great-grandchildren, Jackson Evans, Piersen Evans, Emma DiGaetano, and Jack DiGaetano. She is also survived by her numerous nieces and nephews, and her special friends, Joanne Costello and Marilyn Marks.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Gloria’s caregivers, Maureen, Dorothy, Judy, and April, for their compassion, friendship, and skilled assistance. They wish to also thank the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for making Gloria’s final days peaceful and comfortable.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Friday, September 18, 2020, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation which will be held on Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, at the funeral home.
In keeping with Federal, State, and Diocesan guidelines arising from the COVID-19 virus, those attending the visitation and/or funeral service are required to wear a facial covering and observe social distancing. These guidelines will be strictly enforced.
