Gloria-Jean Helen Elizabeth Harbay Peard, 84, formerly of South Wilkes-Barre and Nanticoke, passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Friday evening, November 07, 2025, at Edenbrook at Hampton, Hanover Township.
Her beloved husband of 50 years was the late Richard Allen Peard who passed away on June 23, 2019.
Born on January 07, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, Gloria-Jean was one of three daughters born to the late Andrew W. Harbay and Christina Bianca DeFlorio Harbay, an immigrant from Taranto, Italy.
Raised on tiny Kirkendall Avenue in South Wilkes-Barre, Gloria was a graduate of the former E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1958, and received her cosmetology certification from Empire Beauty School, formerly of Wilkes-Barre.
Prior to her retirement, Gloria operated a beauty salon from an addition on her home on Orchard Street, South Wilkes-Barre, for many years. There, she forged many friendships with her clients from the neighborhood and beyond.
A woman of faith, Gloria was a longtime member of Saint Nicholas–Saint Mary’s Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Gloria had many enjoyments in life especially reading, playing cards, and traveling with her husband, Richard. Known by many as “Aunt GG” or “GG,” Gloria was renowned for her genuine warmth and profound sense of humor – she had a natural ability of bringing smiles to the faces of everyone she encountered throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Christina Harbay, and her husband, Richard, Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Charles Allabaugh, Ernie Nassimbene, and William Peard Jr., whom she provided many years of skilled care; and her nephew, Andrew ‘Todd’ Allabaugh.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Matthew Peard and his wife, Christa, Nanticoke; and Gareth Peard, San Paulo, Brazil; her sisters, Pearl Allabaugh, Stroudsburg, and Andrea Nassimbene, Desert Springs, California; her beloved dog, Joba; as well as generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Edenbrook at Hampton, formerly Hampton House, for the outstanding care they provided Gloria during her stay there. Gloria’s charm and kind demeanor led her to befriend many of the staff and fellow residents, and the family is forever grateful for those who treated Gloria like family.
