George M. Besermin, 95, formerly of Kossack Street, Swoyersville, and a 2 ½ year resident of Wyoming Manor Personal Care Center, Wyoming, entered into eternal life on Saturday evening, December 19, 2020, at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter, following a brief illness.
His beloved wife was the late Arline E. (Hoffman) Burridge Besermin, who passed away on June 25, 1999. Together, George and Arline shared over 30 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on March 05, 1925, in Swoyersville, George was the son of the late Joseph Besermin and Anna Klobaskhsky Tomascik Besermin.
Raised in Swoyersville, George attended the former Swoyersville High School.
A United States Army Veteran, George honorably served his country for nearly three years during World War II, and saw battle while serving in Central Burma in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars; the American Campaign Medal; the World War II Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his honorable discharge on January 08, 1946, George attained the rank of Private 1st Class.
Prior to his retirement, George was employed as a carpenter by the former Common and Co. Inc., Kingston.
George was a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A proud veteran, George was a life-member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville; and also held membership with the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 283, Kingston, and the China-Burma-India Veterans Association – Greater Northeast Basha Division.
George enjoyed the little things in life such as woodworking; tending to his garden; and his weekend visits to his cabin where countless games of checkers were played with his family and friends. George also had a passion for photography and he was known to always have his camera in hand to capture a photograph of the happy moments in life.
In addition to his parents, Joseph and Anna Besermin, and his wife, Arline, George was preceded in death by his step-son, Samuel Burridge; his daughters-in-law, Betsy and Iola Burridge; his brothers, John and Edward Besermin; and his half-brothers, Joseph, Frank, and Stephen Tomascik.
George is survived by his step-sons, Thomas Burridge, South Carolina; Ronald Burridge, South Carolina; Paul Burridge and his wife, Katie, Texas; and Martin Burridge and his wife, Judie, Swoyersville; his daughter-in-law, Marie Burridge, Virginia; his grandchildren, Stacy Jackson, Charlene Newman, and Tracy Burridge; Lisa Burridge and Kelley Tillinghast; Britt and Justin Burridge; Mark and Joey Burridge; as well as his several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Vernonia Besermin Gibblets, Pottstown; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
George’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth Gernhardt for her years of outstanding care. They would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Wyoming Manor for treating George like a member of their own family during his time living there.
Funeral Arrangements for Mr. Besermin have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
Due to concerns over the current pandemic, the viewing and funeral service for George will be private. A Blessing Service will be celebrated by the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville. A livestreaming of the service will be aired on the Facebook page of Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 10:00 AM.
Private Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
