Gary M. Rodgers Sr., 60, of Swoyersville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born on July 11, 1958, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Gary was the son of the late Lorraine Hudanick Skirmont.
Gary was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1976, and honorably served his country with the United States Army during peacetime.
Gary was employed as a manager for the Sunoco Service Station, Dallas, retiring from there. Prior to that, he was also employed by Turkey Hill Markets, and Rymer Auto Specialists.
A faithful Catholic, Gary was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, and a former member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood.
Gary was a 4th Degree member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 984, Plymouth. He also was a member of Saint Conrad Young Men’s Society; the North End Slovak Club; the Polish American Veterans; and the “World Famous Spectators Club” at Patte’s Sports Bar. He was also involved with the Pennsylvanians for Human Life and the annual fundraiser for the Arc of Luzerne County.
Gary enjoyed traveling; antiquing; fundraising for the various clubs he belonged to; trying his luck at casinos; and rooting on his favorite teams, the Redskins and the Phillies. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Jennie Hudanick; and brothers, Keith Rodgers, Patrick Walsh, and Edward Walsh.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Julie (Tomko) Rodgers; children, Gary M. Rodgers Jr. (Natalie Barcomb), Ashley; and Krista Rodgers, Swoyersville; grandchildren, Adaline Rodgers and Brendan Searfoss; sister, Marilynn Boyle (John), North Carolina; brother, Robert Walsh, Florida; his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and fur grandbaby, Benjamin.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Gary’s viewing on Thursday, January 17th, from 2 to 4 PM and 6:30 to 9 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 18th, at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend James E. McGahagan, family friend, officiating.
Those who will be attending the Funeral Mass are asked to assemble directly at the church.
Private Interment with the Rite of Committal will immediately follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
