Fred Stanley Proleika Sr., 82, a resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Saturday morning, November 07, 2020, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His loving wife is Shirley A. (Barone) Proleika. Together, Fred and Shirley celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on September 8th.
Born on December 31, 1937, in Swoyersville, Fred was one of four children born to the late Edward T. Proleika Sr. and Anna W. (Guzik) Proleika.
Fred was a graduate of the former Forty Fort High School, Class of 1956, where he was a member of the school’s varsity wrestling team.
Prior to his retirement in 2000, Fred was employed for 37 years by the United Parcel Service (UPS). Professionally, he held membership with the Teamsters’ Union Local 401, Wilkes-Barre, and served as acting President of Par-Del Federal Credit Union, Wyoming.
A devout Catholic, Fred was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where he served as an usher, and volunteered at the church bazaar for many years. Following the consolidation of his church, Fred became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, where he also served as an usher.
Fred was known to keep the grounds of his home meticulous and his annual flower garden was admired by many. He was an avid fisherman and a longtime member of the Lehigh Valley Sportsman Club, where he and his brother-in-law, Don Casterline, spent many good times trout fishing with their sons. He was also a great fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The epitome of a gentleman, Fred was well loved and respected by all. He never passed up the opportunity to help those who were in need, and was always one to extend a kind word to brighten someone’s day. Above all, he will be remembered as being a devoted family man and friend who would move heaven and earth for those he loved. Although his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
In addition to his parents, Edward and Anna Proleika, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Proleika; his sister, Mary Jo Mackavage; his brother-in-law, Edward Mackavage Sr.; his sister-in-law, Bette Proleika; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Sophie Barone; and his Godfather, Corporal Joseph T. Jozefecick, U.S. Marine Corps, killed in action in World War II in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Fred is survived by his three children, Deborah Ann Proleika, Forty Fort; Dr. Suzanne Proleika, Forty Fort; and Fred S. Proleika Jr., Hawthorne, New Jersey; his brother, Edward T. Proleika Jr., Forty Fort; his sister-in-law, Barbara Proleika, Clearwater, Florida; as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and neighbors.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Fred’s viewing which will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
In keeping with Federal, State, and Diocesan guidelines, those attending the viewing and/or funeral service are required to wear a facial covering and observe social distancing.
