Elizabeth “Betty” Youngblood, 100, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday evening, September 19, 2020, at Residential Hospice, Inpatient Unit, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Her beloved husband was the late Raymond J. Youngblood, who passed away on October 26, 1975. Together, Raymond and Betty shared 36 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on August 28, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Horney) Warnecke.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre Township, Elizabeth was a graduate of the former Wilkes-Barre Township High School.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was employed as a seamstress and packer for several garment manufacturers in the Wyoming Valley.
A lifelong member of Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Seneca Street, Wilkes-Barre, Betty was an extremely faithful and dedicated member of her church, where she was a member of its choir and sisterhood. Betty was actively involved with the church functions, and was a dedicated pierogi maker for the church.
In addition to her parents, Alexander and Anna Warnecke, and her husband, Raymond, Betty was preceded in death by her son, James Youngblood, who passed away on November 05, 1998; her daughter, Nancy Youngblood Campbell, who passed away on April 15, 2011; her brother, Protopresbyter Alexander Warnecke; and her sister, Jane Fluegel.
Betty is survived by her four children, Raymond Youngblood and his wife, Donata, Hazel Township; Robert Youngblood and his wife, Christine, Wilkes-Barre; Thomas Youngblood, with whom she resided; and Claire Gennett and her husband, Rick, West Chester; her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be celebrated in Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Seneca Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Michael Lepa, Pastor, will officiate.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
There will be no public calling hours.
