Eleanor L. (Selensky) Mandycz, 90, a resident of Luzerne, passed into eternal life on Friday morning, February 10, 2017, at Kingston Health Care Center, Kingston, following a brief illness.
Her beloved husband was the late Anthony “Tony” Mandycz Jr., who passed away on March 16, 2011. Tony and Eleanor were blessed to share 42 years of marriage.
Born on November 21, 1926, in Swoyersville, Eleanor was the oldest of five children born to the late Andrew F. Selensky Sr. and Victoria (Brutko) Selensky Ondish. Her step-father was the late George Ondish.
Prior to her retirement, Eleanor was employed for many years as a seamstress in the local garment industry. In her earlier years she was employed by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company, Mountaintop.
Eleanor was a faithful Catholic and lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. She was currently a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, and held membership with the parish’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
For many years, Eleanor was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville. In her younger years, she worked as waitress for events at the American Legion.
An expert seamstress, Eleanor loved making custom clothing and draperies, and doing alterations for her family and friends.
Eleanor was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, most especially her great-granddaughter, Crista, who held a very special place in her heart.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roy Gernhardt and Dr. Elizabeth Gernhardt for their outstanding care. They would also like to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Kingston Manor for becoming an extension of Eleanor’s family and for the loving care they provided Eleanor during her time of need. Also, special thanks to Sister Jane Ellis IHM for visiting Eleanor and providing her spiritual comfort; and to Barbara Stevens, who faithfully came to administer the sacrament of Holy Communion to Eleanor.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Victoria; her step-father, George; and her husband, Tony, Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joseph J. Yankay, who passed away on March 08, 2016; her grandson, Samuel Yankay; and her brothers, Master Sergeant Richard J. Selensky and Andrew F. Selensky Jr.
Eleanor is survived by her loving son, Thomas Yankay, Swoyersville; her three grandchildren, Tracey Gorham, Thomas Yankay and Samantha Yankay; her seven great-grandchildren, Cole, Jack, Noah, Gracen, Crista, Tristan and Alianna; her sisters, Geraldine “Gerry” Rish, Swoyersville; and Anna Mae Colondo, Hollidaysburg; her sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Selensky and Amelia Selensky; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM in the church.
