Dorothy Shedlarski Grycko, 84, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 04, 2017, at the Hampton House, Wilkes-Barre, where she was recently a guest.
Born on February 02, 1932, in Forty Fort, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline (Potera) Shedlarski.
Dorothy was a graduate of the former Forty Fort High School, Class of 1950.
In 1952, Dorothy was married and moved to Staten Island, New York, where she worked for an insurance office in Battery Park, New York. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, she was employed by the former Flory Fashions, Swoyersville.
After raising her children, Dorothy attended classes at Wilkes University, Luzerne County Community College, and Bossier City College in Louisiana. She then gained employment as an office manager for Tioga Laboratories, Kingston and then went on to become employed as an administrative assistant with the DME Billing Department for the former Wyoming Valley Health Care System. After retiring, Dorothy worked part-time as an activities assistant for the Hampton House, Wilkes Barre.
Dorothy was a faithful Catholic and a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville. She was also a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville. Additionally, she volunteered at the former Holy Trinity School, Swoyersville, during the 1960’s.
A very talented woman, Dorothy enjoyed doing arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, and was very talented at creating auction baskets for Gate of Heaven School and the Back Mountain Public Library. She was also known for her quick wit and her great sense of humor.
In addition to her parents, Joseph and Angeline Shedlarski, Dorothy was preceded in death by her infant son, Stephen; her sister, Marian Janczewski; and her brothers, George and James Shedlarski.
Affectionately known as “Grammy” and “Aunt Dorothy”, she is survived by her daughter, Gloria Bilder and her husband, Edward Jr., Harveys Lake; her son, Walter S. Grycko, Sunnyvale, California; her daughter-in-law, Johnna Grycko, Indiana, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Adam J. Bilder; Stacey Davis and her husband, Ben; and Ashley Grycko; her step-grandchildren, Saundra Colwell; Christina Vogel and her husband, Master Sergeant Andrew; and Edward John Bilder III; her step-great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Alorah Colwell; Lily and Drew Vogel; and Elena and Edward John Bilder IV; her brother, Dr. Joseph G. Shedlarski PhD- D.D.S. and his wife, Sandy, Metairie, Louisiana; as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank both the staff at the Hampton House and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate, nurturing, and loving care they bestowed upon Dorothy daily.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, January 09, 2017, at 9:30 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 08, 2017, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, at the funeral home.
