Cindy Rae Kuhns, 68, a resident of Lehman Township, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
She and her loving husband, James Kuhns, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on July 12th.
Born on April 27, 1956, in Kingston, Cindy was one of four children born to the late Thomas Robert Powell and Ada Faye Dickson Powell. Beside her parents, her sister, Sandra Kelly, preceded her in death.
A graduate of Lake Lehman High School, Class of 1974, Cindy enlisted in the United States Army immediately after graduation. Beginning her 3 ½ years of active duty during the Vietnam War era, Cindy served nearly two of those years in Germany, attaining the rank of SP5. Following her honorable discharge from active duty, she served the Army Reserves with the 300th Field Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and later with the 365th Combat Engineer Battalion, Wilkes-Barre, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Studying psychology at College Misericordia (Misericordia University), and criminal justice at Luzerne County Community College, she went on to be a self-employed chandler, owning and operating Candle Revolution, formerly 1998 Candle Company.
Cindy was a member of the American Legion Post 673, Ashley; past member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, serving as Past Commander and Past Adjutant; and served as Past Deputy Commander of District 12 of the PA American Legion.
Deeply rooted in her Christian faith, Cindy was a member of Harvest Church, Trucksville.
Cindy found joy in camping at her family’s campsite in Tunkhannock; being around animals, especially the dogs she loved and cared for over the years; and, most importantly, being surrounded by her family, especially her grandsons – she was so very proud of the both of them.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James, and their children, Jason Kuhns and his wife, Roxann, New Concord, Ohio; and Jaime Hartley and her husband, Terry, Cary, North Carolina; grandsons, Devon Kuhns and Liam Hartley; brother, Thomas Powell, Dallas; sister, Bonnie Sorbelli and her husband, Paul, Hudson, Florida; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
