Catherine L. Zekas, 83, a resident of Forty Fort, entered into eternal life on Tuesday evening, May 03, 2016, at ManorCare Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, where she had recently been a guest.
Her beloved husband was the late Thomas J. Zekas, who passed away on May 25, 2004. Together, Thomas and Catherine shared 32 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on October 20, 1932, in her family home in Swoyersville, Catherine was one of three children born to the late Michael and Mary E. (Rapczynski) Wisdo.
Raised in Swoyersville, Catherine was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1950.
A homemaker most of her life, Catherine was employed for some years as a customer service representative for the former Hills Department Store, Edwardsville.
Catherine was a faithful Catholic and a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Throughout her life, Catherine had a great appreciation for both art and music. She was an accomplished doll maker, seamstress, crocheter, and most notably, a self-taught pianist. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the Mohegan Sun Casino.
Catherine will be fondly remembered as a kind and loving woman who was greatly devoted to her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Mary Zekas, and her husband, Thomas, Catherine was preceded in death by her son, Thomas J. Zekas Jr., who passed away on May 30, 1997.
Catherine is survived by her children, Joseph (Mary) Piasta, Wyoming; Pamela (David) Loftus, Florida; Kathleen Willis, Forty Fort; William (Janice) Piasta, Luzerne; Paul Piasta, Ohio; and Jeanne (Paul) Keating, Kingston; her 11 grandchildren, Joseph (Katie) Piasta, Jacqueline (Kevin) Bates, David (Rebecca) Loftus, Sarah (Daniel) Lucca, Faith Loftus, Katie Willis, William Piasta, Leanne (Pete) Kizis, Jack Keating, Nora Keating, and Elizabeth Zekas; her many great-grandchildren; her brothers, Michael Wisdo, Kingston, and Robert (Henrietta) Wisdo, Wilkes-Barre; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
At Catherine’s request, a private family viewing and funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 07, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
