Joseph Onzik

Thursday, March 6, 1958Saturday, June 30, 2018

Joseph Onzik, 60, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, June 30, 2018, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on March 06, 1958, in Kingston, Joseph was one of nine children born to Antoinette J. (Oberts) Onzik, Dallas, and the late John Paul Onzik Sr., who passed away on April 21, 2010.

Joe was a graduate of the former Bishop O’Reilly High School, Class of 1976.

For the past 17 years, Joe was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Mericle Construction, Plains Township. Prior to that, he was employed by John Connolly and Sons Construction Company, Luzerne.

Joe was currently serving as a councilman on the Swoyersville Borough Council.

A man of faith, Joe was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville. He also enjoyed the annual tradition of making chili sauce with his mother; spending Saturday’s with his family at his brother’s home on Harveys Lake; and was a great fan of both college and professional football.

Above all, Joe’s greatest love in life was being surrounded by his loving family, most especially his granddaughter, Kendyl, who was his rock in life, and the light and joy of his days. He will forever be remembered as a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.

In addition to his father, John Paul Onzik, Joe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Anna Onzik; his maternal grandparents, Stanley and Genevieve Oberts; his nephews, Thomas and Adam Onzik; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Lucille Bolin; his sister-in-law, Jane Onzik; and his brother-in-law, John Bolin.

In addition to his mother, Antoinette, Joe is survived by his wife, Catherine “Cathy” (Bolin) Onzik; his sons, Joseph Onzik Jr., Swoyersville; and Matthew Onzik, Wyoming; his granddaughter, Kendyl Onzik, Swoyersville; his brothers and sisters, John Paul Onzik Jr., Colorado; Thomas (Charlene) Onzik, Trucksville; Edward (Mary Ann) Onzik, Shavertown; David (Susan) Onzik, Harveys Lake; Paul (Maureen) Onzik, Lehman Township; Martin (Trish) Onzik, Philadelphia; Ann Marie Onzik, Hunlock Creek; and Mary Jean Onzik, Dallas; his brother-in-law, Carmen (Mary Beth) Bolin, Wyoming; his sister-in-law, Ann Marie (Dr. Stephen) Lawrence, West Pittston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
